Paris

Day 5

Rain, rain go away but, our morning basket arrived on time. After breakfast we headed out to the Marais neighborhood again, between the raindrops, to buy cheese and pate. Then we decided to go to the Holocaust memorial. The site commerates the lives of over 76,000 Jews deported from France during WWII. Displaying original deportation records it goes thru the history of Jews in Europe and France, from medieval pograms to the Nazi era. Stories, pictures, letters, artifacts and diagrams were all displayed and documented. All in black white and grays until the end where there is a brightly lit collage of children lost to the Holocaust. It is better to do it in 2 days. We stayed about 2 hours but needed more time (we were carrying our fish and meat pates and the cheeses were starting to smell (good). Admission is free and security very tight (airport style). Even though depressing we must acknowledge it so as to never repeat it.

Dodging raindrops again we headed back to our place to feast on cheese, wine and pates. Intensity of the food was so satisfying! Good day for some down time as tomorrow is our full day tour of Normandy.
